2011 was a great year for many reasons.  Now that the books have all been reconciled and final numbers are released, there is yet another reason for Mercedes-Benz to celebrate 2011.  The tri-pointed star did very well in sales, especially in the SUV/CUV segment.

Chinese and American demand have only gone up, which helped Mercedes-Benz achieve an impressive 24.3-percent increase in SUV/CUV sales for 2011 over 2010 sales. You might be wondering if there was a favorite among all of the great models. The winner would be the Mercedes-Benz R-Class, which experienced a sales hike of over 50 percent!

While it's easy to see why the R-Class is such a fan favorite  with its class-leading safety and performance, as well as its ability to handle all sorts of situations, while carting around seven passengers comfortably , the overall trend is a little more complex.

Mercedes-Benz head of Sales and Marketing, Mr. Joachim Schmidt explains that the Bavarian automaker's present success "Rests on a foundation the company laid when it launched the G-Class SUV over three decades ago". From that G-Class up to five elite vehicles, including the Mercedes Benz Mercedes-Benz M-Class, GLK-Class, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class - and, of course, the R-Class and G-Class.

Mr. Schmidt does not understate the importance of the SUV line-up in the company's future success and growth.  Combined, models such as the G-Class and R-Class have shattered monthly sales records for approximately 15 consecutive months. Now that is impressive, especially in a somewhat hostile economy.
