Mercedes-Benz has made a name for themselves based on performance and luxury. As such Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta was not shocked when Mercedes-Benz corporate decided they were going to keep their focus on those establishing qualities and not jump on the band wagon of the hybrid and EV markets. Nonetheless, we're pretty sure there must be some Mecedes-Benz fans who crave the speed and luxury and want to help the environment as well.

Chin up! Mercedes-Benz may be signing a slightly different tune now. Ola Kallenius, Chairman, Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz AMG has announced that the automaker is now reconsidering an "electrified"¹ future. Rest assure however, the company's primary principle's will remain intact. They will continue to base all business and design decisions on luxury and performance.

Why the change of heart you ask? Simply that hybrid and EV technologies have come a very long way since their first announcement. At first the technology was not fully developed and the cars tended to be on the boring/slow side. Now, Mercedes-Benz, believes they can develop hybrid and EV cars with as much power and excitement as their traditional gas powered vehicles.

The first model we expect Mercedes-Benz to help launch is the SLS AMG E-Cell, currently under AMG Division development.  We don't have all of the details just yet. But, Kallenius indicates the design will not include any unnecessary weight and fans can expect its performance to be "exceptional."² Orders for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell are to be taken starting in 2012 with deliveries following shortly thereafter in 2014.
